Bajali: The Food Safety Department on Friday carried out a joint inspection drive at meat shops in Pathsala market, uncovering multiple violations of hygiene and safety norms.

The operation was conducted with support from the district police, the District Veterinary Office, the Pathsala Municipal Board and the Legal Metrology Department. Several establishments were inspected for compliance with food safety regulations.

Officials said seven domestic LPG cylinders were seized from two shops, raising concerns over their unauthorised use for commercial purposes.

In a more serious lapse, inspection teams found sick and dead chickens at certain outlets, pointing to poor hygiene practices and potential risks to public health. Authorities noted that some vendors were operating without maintaining basic sanitation standards while handling and selling poultry products.

The department has warned of strict action against violators and said similar drives will continue in the coming days to ensure adherence to safety norms and protect consumer health.
