Zubeen Garg death case
The hearing on Mahantaโ€™s bail request has been completed after arguments from his lawyers, Pran Bora and Rajdeep Banerjee.

Guwahati: A fast-track court on April 23 said it will deliver its decision on the bail plea of Shyamkanu Mahanta on April 30 in the case linked to the death of Assam’s singer Zubeen Garg.

The hearing on Mahantaโ€™s bail request has been completed after arguments from his lawyers, Pran Bora and Rajdeep Banerjee. The court has been taking up the matter regularly over the past few days.

A separate bail plea has also been filed for co-accused Siddharth Sharma. The court had earlier not taken it up due to problems in the affidavit, which are now being addressed.

Special Public Prosecutor Ziaul Kamar has filed written submissions opposing bail for both accused.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police is handling the probe and has booked Mahanta and other accused on murder charges linked to the singerโ€™s death in Singapore on September 19 last year.

All seven accused, among them Mahanta, Sharma, Sandipan Garg, Shekharjyoti Goswami, Amrit Prabha Mahanta, along with PSOs Paresh Baishya and Nandeswar Borah, remain in judicial custody after being taken into custody in October.

Earlier, the SIT submitted a detailed chargesheet before the Kamrup Chief Judicial Magistrateโ€™s court, accusing the arrested individuals of murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
