Aizawl: The Meteorological Centre in Aizawl observed Earth Day on Wednesday with a series of initiatives aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and climate awareness.
The programme began with a plantation drive led by officials and staff of the Centre, underscoring the importance of collective action in addressing climate change.
The event also featured interactive sessions highlighting the role of meteorology in mitigating climate-related risks. Officials emphasised how accurate weather forecasting contributes to disaster risk reduction and supports sustainable development in the region.
Addressing the gathering, Centre Head Sudheer Kumar Dwivedi stressed the shared responsibility of individuals and institutions in safeguarding the environment. He encouraged staff to adopt eco-friendly practices such as conserving energy and water, and transitioning towards renewable resources in both professional and personal spheres.
Participants also pledged to reduce the use of single-use plastics and promote environmental awareness within their communities.
