Guwahati: A man has been taken into custody in Assamโs Charaideo district over alleged connections with the banned insurgent organisation ULFA (Independent), officials said.
The accused, identified as Wang alias Noni, was detained during a security operation in the Namtola area under Sonari subdivision.
Officials suspect he may have functioned as an intermediary for the group, helping pass messages and provide operational support. Further details have not been released, as the investigation is still ongoing.
Authorities are questioning the detainee to assess his level of involvement and possible links to others.
In a separate development, Tinsukia Police earlier detained seven individuals suspected of acting as ULFA (Independent) associates from various parts of the district.
Police sources said the accused had reportedly maintained contact with the outfit for a prolonged period, during which information was passed on. The detentions were made through a series of coordinated actions conducted at different locations.
All seven are presently being questioned as part of a wider probe to uncover the extent of their involvement and possible network connections.
Those detained have been identified as Barlin Neog from Bordumsa; Mithu Gohain and Lilambar Moran from Pengree; Bikash Deka of Kakopathar; Shiba Deb and Paritosh Deb from Miao in Arunachal Pradesh; and Manob Dey from Makum.
The investigation is currently in progress.
