Lakhimpur man kills daughter

North Lakhimpur: A man allegedly killed his minor daughter inside a running train in Assamโ€™s Lakhimpur district on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred between Kathalpukhuri and Silanibari railway stations aboard the 15813 Dekargaonโ€“Murkongselek passenger train. The accused has been identified as Sunil Murmu, a resident of No. 2 Kadamguri in Dhemaji district.

According to eyewitness accounts, passengers discovered the body of a child with a severed head inside an empty compartment, while the accused was seen holding a machete. When confronted, Murmu reportedly attempted to attack a witness, creating panic among passengers.

He later jumped off the train near Gate No. 46, close to Silanibari railway station, and tried to flee. Local villagers chased him for several kilometres before apprehending him at Sariyahbari village.

He was subsequently brought to Silanibari railway station and handed over to the police.

Sources said Murmu had boarded the train earlier in the morning from Borgang railway station in Biswanath district, leaving behind his wife and another daughter on the platform.
