Dibrugarh: A hardcore NSCN (IM) cadre surrendered before security forces in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang on Monday, 31 March.

The cadre has been identified as Sh Jungron Chena (30).

Chena surrendered with arms and ammunition before the officer-in-charge of Changlang Police Station and the 4 Assam Rifles.

“In an effort to encourage the return of our misguided local youth to the mainstream and help them lead a dignified life with their families, the Changlang district police have been continuously trying to bring back misguided youth to the mainstream,” said a police official.

The surrender of Sh Jungron Chena is a major blow to NSCN (IM). This insurgent group is mostly active in the TLC region of eastern Arunachal Pradesh, and it brainwashes youths to join the group.

“Extortion and kidnapping are the main activities of these insurgent groups. They mostly operate from the jungles of Myanmar. Security forces have intensified operations against them and have forced them to surrender before the police,” said a local resident.

Recently, many surrenders have taken place after security forces encouraged misguided youth to return to the mainstream and lead a dignified life.

Meanwhile, Assam Rifles personnel have been continuously working to bring them back to the mainstream.
