Imphal: A police inspector sustained injuries from a sharp weapon after a team from Manipur’s Imphal East District Police Station was attacked by a mob while conducting a raid on Sunday night.
Despite the violent confrontation, the team successfully arrested an alleged drug trafficker.
The incident occurred around 7:30 pm on Sunday at Kshetrigao Yumkhaibam Leikai under the jurisdiction of Porompat Police Station, officials reported on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off that a group of drug dealers was operating in the area, a team led by Inspector Rajiv rushed to the spot. While conducting the operation at the residence of Mohammad Najar Khan, the police team faced resistance from a mob.
During the confrontation, Inspector Rajiv sustained injuries to his hand and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
In a follow-up operation, the team arrested the alleged drug trafficker, identified as Mohammad Najar Khan (40).
He is currently in police custody and has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act (Amendment) 2023 for further legal proceedings, the report added.
