Dibrugarh: Arunachal Pradesh’s Deomali Forest Division successfully rescued a stranded Himalayan black bear cub, estimated to be around one month old, from Borduria village under the Deomali subdivision.
According to official reports, on March 26, 2026, Ponpong Ruttum reported the incident to the department, while Wanghon Lettey, who found the cub in Borduria village, informed the Forest Department after discovering it stranded in an agricultural field.
Acting swiftly on the information, officials from the Borduria Forest Range, led by Range Forest Officer (RFO) Diwang Lowang, rushed to the spot and safely took the cub into the departmentโs custody under the guidance of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Deomali Forest Division.
Following the rescue, the cub was provided with proper care and attention by the department.
On March 28, 2026, the cub was handed over to Panjit Basumatary, veterinarian at the Centre for Bear Rehabilitation and Conservation (CBRC) at Pakke Tiger Reserve, for further care, treatment, and rehabilitation, in the presence of forest officials from the Namsai Forest Division at Namsai.
RFO Diwang Lowang appreciated the timely cooperation and support extended by the villagers in safeguarding wildlife. He appealed to the public to actively support wildlife conservation and habitat restoration efforts by refraining from forest destruction, poaching, and hunting.
Environment and Forest Minister Wangki Lowang lauded Ponpong Ruttum and Wanghon Lettey of Borduria village for their prompt action in rescuing the cub and extending full cooperation to the Forest Department.
He reiterated the importance of public participation in wildlife protection and conservation initiatives.
The Forest Department reaffirmed its commitment to the protection and conservation of wildlife and urged citizens to immediately report any such incidents to the nearest forest authorities.
