Guwahati: Dibrugarh district has finalized arrangements for the April 9 Assam Assembly elections, with authorities ensuring voters in isolated villages and river-bordering communities can easily cast their ballots.

According to Deputy Commissioner Bikram Kairi, the district will operate 1,322 polling stations.

Five of these are located in areas along rivers, where election teams will use boats to reach residents. Local authorities have organized transportation and supplies so voters can cast their votes without leaving their communities.

District officials are focusing on making voting accessible even in difficult terrain while encouraging every eligible citizen to participate. Their goal is to conduct polling efficiently and without major interruptions.

At the state level, the Election Commission of India carried out a virtual briefing on March 25 with District Election Officers, police officials, and senior administrators to review the stateโ€™s election readiness.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar urged authorities to ensure that voters in Assam can participate without fear, with all elections conducted safely and fairly.

The meeting covered key areas including booth arrangements, electronic voting machine handling, logistics, staff preparation, law and order, and voter awareness efforts.

Authorities have been instructed to deliver voter slips to households at least five days before polling, along with guidance materials. Braille-enabled slips will also be provided for visually impaired voters.

Meanwhile, they have reinforced safety measures and emergency plans for riverine areas, taking Assamโ€™s challenging terrain into account.

All 126 Assembly constituencies will vote in a single phase on April 9, with results slated for May 4.
