Guwahati: Kunki Chowdhury, the “Gen Z” Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate for the 36 Guwahati Central constituency, will file her nomination on Monday, March 23 for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, with a joint opposition rally scheduled in the city.

Chowdhury is contesting as part of a broader opposition alliance comprising the Indian National Congress, Raijor Dal, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India (Marxistโ€“Leninist) and All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC), reflecting a coordinated push to consolidate opposition support in key constituencies.

Filing of nomination will be preceded by a rally beginning at 8:30 AM from the Congress city office at the Manabendra Sarma Complex in Dispur, proceeding to the Kamrup (Metropolitan) District Commissionerโ€™s office at Hengrabari.

In a show of unity, Chowdhury will be joined by senior Congress leader and fellow candidate Mira Borthakur Goswami, along with leaders from alliance partners who are expected to participate in the march.

Speaking on the significance of the day, Chowdhury said, โ€œI am entering this battle for the very first time, and I do so with the hope of bringing a new vision to the Guwahati Central Constituency. Tomorrow, as I head to the District Commissionerโ€™s office, I carry with me the aspirations of every resident who seeks change.โ€

โ€œI have spent the last few days seeking the blessings of our elders and the support of our youth. On this journey, I humbly request my mothers, sisters, and young friends to stand by me. Your presence at 8:30 AM tomorrow will not just be a show of support for me, but a commitment to the future of our constituency,โ€ she added.

Chowdhury also expressed gratitude to the residents of Guwahati Central, stating that their support and blessings would be crucial as she prepares for the Assembly polls scheduled for April 9.
