Guwahati: The BJP announced two new candidates for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections on Saturday, March 21.

The nominations cover Dalgaon and Sissibargaon constituencies. Krishna Saha will contest from Dalgaon (51), and Jiban Gogoi has been chosen for Sissibargaon (79).

This update follows the partyโ€™s earlier release of candidates for 88 other seats as it works to finalise its full election roster.

The announcement, issued from BJPโ€™s headquarters in New Delhi, carries the approval of the partyโ€™s central leadership.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on March 19, said 88 of 89 assembly seats had been assigned candidates, with Sissibargaon pending at that time.

Sarma said the partyโ€™s candidate list aims to include women, young leaders, Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, and members of the Nath community.

He added that party members across Assam are happy with the selections and are confident the BJP can achieve strong results in the elections.

Under the NDA alliance, the BJP has set aside 26 constituencies for its partner, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).
