Sarma, running for the Jalukbari Assembly seat as a BJP candidate, reported movable assets of Rs 2.36 crore.

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma have reported a significant rise in their combined wealth, which has nearly doubled to Rs 35.16 crore in 2026 from Rs 17.27 crore in 2021, according to Sarma’s election affidavit filed on March 20.

Sarma, running for the Jalukbari Assembly seat as a BJP candidate, reported movable assets of Rs 2.36 crore. According to him, he does not own any land or buildings.

Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, who leads Pride East Entertainment, declared total holdings of Rs 32.79 crore, including both movable and immovable assets, compared with Rs 16.19 crore in 2021.

The affidavit details that Sarma has cash holdings of Rs 2.28 lakh and bank balances totaling Rs 68.02 lakh. His wife has Rs 3.16 lakh in cash and Rs 74.85 lakh in bank accounts.

Sarma has no financial instruments such as shares, bonds, or mutual funds, whereas his wife has Rs 5.10 crore invested in such assets. She also owns a life insurance plan worth Rs 1.77 crore; Sarma has none.

Regarding vehicles, Sarma does not own any, while his wife possesses a jeep purchased in 2018 for Rs 21.60 lakh.

In gold, Sarma declared 180 grams valued at Rs 25.10 lakh. Riniki owns 1,459.221 grams worth Rs 2.03 crore.

Sarma does not own any farmland or non-agricultural property, while Riniki holds three non-agricultural properties, two bought and one inherited, valued at Rs 19.25 crore.

Liabilities recorded in the affidavit are Rs 95.05 lakh for Sarma and Rs 15.91 crore for Riniki. Sarma’s income comes from his government salary, while Riniki lists her earnings from business.

Sarma stated that no criminal cases are pending against him, and he has not faced any convictions.
