North Lakhimpur: An intelligence tip from Assam Police turned into a high-stakes operation as Arunachal Pradesh Police apprehended a 29-year-old man from Lakhimpur district for allegedly sending a death threat to the Chief Minister of Assam via WhatsApp.

The accused, identified as Krishna Dornal (29) from Lakhimpur district, was tracked down after Assam Police alerted authorities in Naharlagun about the alarming message.

Acting swiftly, a police team launched an intensive search and located Dornal at a wine shop in Naharlagunโ€™s A-Sector, where he worked.

According to sources, the threat was sent from mobile number 9108355919, warning of an attempt to shoot the Chief Minister. During interrogation, Dornal reportedly confessed to the act, revealing a chain of events driven by financial distress.

He had allegedly misused funds, including money from his workplace, and, when confronted by the shop owner, tried to obtain money by reaching out to the Chief Ministerโ€™s official email ID.

When no response came, he allegedly turned to Google, found a WhatsApp contact, and sent the threatening message in desperation.

Following his detention, Dornal has been handed over to the Banderdewa Police Outpost under Assam Police for further investigation.

Authorities are continuing to probe the case to determine any additional motives or connections.
