Imphal: The ongoing conflict in Western Asia, particularly involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, has triggered significant anxiety regarding LPG supply in India, leading to a rise in panic buying and hoarding of filled cylinders in Manipur.

In response, a control room manned by three officials has been opened at the head office of the Directorate of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (CAF&PD), Government of Manipur, Imphal, effective Wednesday.

Consumers and the general public who wish to lodge complaints, share information, or seek details regarding LPG and other petroleum products in the state may contact the control room or the concerned district monitoring committee. A team, led by Haobam Bobby Singh, Officer on Special Duty (OSD/POL โ€“ Petroleum, Oil & Lubricants) for the CAF&PD, has been assigned to the task.

The notification clarified that there is no shortage of LPG or other petroleum products in the state. According to the department, the recent disruption in LPG distribution was caused by a technical issue in the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system at the all-India level, which has now been resolved.

The Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Imphal, has confirmed that adequate stock of LPG and petroleum products is available in Manipur.

The department has urged consumers not to panic or engage in unnecessary hoarding, warning that such actions may create safety hazards.
