Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Tuesday met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi and sought special attention to the stateโs proposal for an elevated highway in Imphal and the strengthening of national highways.
According to an official statement issued by the Chief Ministerโs Secretariat, Singh apprised Gadkari of the status of ongoing and proposed road infrastructure projects in Manipur. He urged the Union Minister to prioritise the construction of an elevated highway in Imphal to address growing traffic congestion in the capital.
The Chief Minister also pressed for expeditious consideration of a Rs 12,000-crore project aimed at strengthening and upgrading 1,774 km of national highways in the state by 2026-27.
Gadkari assured the Chief Minister of all possible assistance from his Ministry and said the proposals submitted by the State government would be considered positively, the statement added.
Singh was accompanied by Deputy Chief Ministers Nemcha Kipgen of the BJP and Losii Dikho of the Naga Peopleโs Front.
The meeting marked Singhโs first interaction with Gadkari after assuming office as Chief Minister on February 4.
