Guwahati: Three women from Arunachal Pradesh have lodged an FIR against their neighbours in south Delhiโs Malviya Nagar, alleging racial abuse and intimidation.
The Malviya Nagar police registered an FIR against Harish Singh and his wife on Sunday under Sections 79, 351(2), 3(5), and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, a senior police officer said. No physical injuries were reported, but the complainants claimed mental harassment and humiliation.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 3.30 pm on February 20, during drilling and electrical work in the womenโs fourth-floor apartment. โDuring the process, dust and debris from the work fell to the floor below, prompting objections from the residents, Harish Singh and his wife,โ the officer said.
The women alleged that instead of resolving the matter amicably, the couple hurled racial and derogatory remarks targeting them. Offensive stereotypes were reportedly used, and their modesty was insulted during the dispute.
Several videos of the incident circulated on social media, drawing widespread attention. In one clip, a woman allegedly asks one of the Arunachal women, โWere you sitting here to do business? Have you opened a massage parlour at home?โ The victim can be heard responding, โEveryone heard what you said about my image. You made false allegations that I drink alcohol. Go check my room if you find any bottles there.โ
When the male neighbour, allegedly Harish Singh, was confronted, the accused woman reportedly continued with derogatory remarks.
Following the incident, the complainants claimed that a building broker told them they would need to vacate the flat within two months due to future repair work. The women have demanded a formal apology, noting that the remarks targeted not only them but the wider northeastern community.
