Imphal: A joint operation by central security forces and Manipur police led to the busting of three militants’ camps and the seizure of a significant cache of explosives, ammunition, and jungle items ahead of the 77th Republic Day celebrations.

The recovery of these warlike stores occurred during anti-insurgency campaigns conducted in three districts over the past 36 hours, police reports stated on Sunday. Though no arrests were made at the three targeted locations, several weapons and explosives were recovered.

From the area between Loilamkot and Nalon under Churachandpur Police Station in Churachandpur district, security forces recovered three RPG rounds, five 30 mm grenades, a bolt-action rifle of .303 caliber, two medium-range local cannons (Pumpi), three shells for the local cannon, two single-barreled rifles, and ten SBBL cartridges.

From the Waheng Khuman Mamang Leikai area under Wangoi Police Station in Imphal West, authorities recovered two modified .303 rifles, three pistols each with a magazine, six magazines of various arms, three No. 36 high-explosive grenades, twenty-three rounds of live ammunition of different calibers, a detonator, four mortar bomb shells, one IED, and explosives weighing approximately one kilogram.

From the foothills of the Naotrok Hill Range under Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East district, security forces recovered a DBBL gun, a country-made 9mm pistol with an empty magazine, two high-explosive hand grenades, a practice rifle grenade, two INSAS rifle magazines, twenty rounds of live ammunition of various calibers, a bulletproof helmet, two bulletproof covers, and two bulletproof iron plates.

The report added that the confiscated items were later transferred to the concerned police stations for necessary legal proceedings.
