Imphal: Security forces dismantled a temporary camp allegedly set up by suspected insurgents and recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and explosives during an anti-insurgency operation in Imphal East district, police said on Friday.
The operation was carried out on Thursday at Uchol village and the adjoining foothill areas under Andro police station limits. On noticing the movement of security personnel, the suspects fled the area, police said. No arrests were made during the operation.
During the search, security forces recovered a locally made barrel gun, a .22 rifle with magazine, five No. 36 hand grenades without detonators, one Chinese hand grenade, 30 rounds of live ammunition of various calibres, four tube-launching devices, two Baofeng wireless sets with chargers, three tear smoke shells, one rubber bullet shell, two improvised explosive devices weighing about 2 kg each, three arming rings, one tear smoke grenade, two helmets and one SLR magazine.
All seized items were handed over to the concerned police stations for further legal proceedings. Police said cases have been registered under relevant sections of the law.
