Imphal: Central security forces and Manipur Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers, including a senior citizen, and seized heroin concealed in soap cases during separate operations over the past 36 hours, officials said on Tuesday.
According to the Manipur Police morning bulletin, Hriili Kaihrii (65), a resident of Mayangkhang Khunou in Kangpokpi district, was detained at the Phougakchao Ikhai Bazar checkpoint under Phougakchao Ikhai police station in Bishnupur district. Police recovered eight soap cases containing about 94 grams of heroin powder.
In a separate operation, the Anti-Narcotic Task Force arrested Md Ajmir Hussain (39) of Chingdong Leikai in Jiribam district from the Tengdongyan area under Sekmai police station in Imphal West district. Authorities said they acted on intelligence about heroin being transported and seized 310 grams of the drug, locally known as “No. 4.”
The suspects and the seized heroin were handed over to the respective police stations for further investigation under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Act, 2023.
