Imphal: Manipur police, with the assistance of central security forces, raided two houses in Imphal West and Thoubal districts and seized several bottles of cough syrup and heroin, along with the arrests of two individuals, officials said on Monday.
The accused had no license or legal documents to store or sell these medicines and drugs. The police reported that the seized prescription-based medicines are highly addictive and often misused by drug addicts in Manipur.
Based on specific intelligence, the joint team, in the first phase of the operation, raided the residence of Md. Riyash Khan, 31, of Sangaiyumpham Nungpou Mathak Leikai under Thoubal police station in Thoubal district.
From his possession, authorities recovered 13 bottles of Delstal cough syrup, 33 bottles of Berrycof cough syrup, one box containing nine strips and three tablets of Nitrazepam, one mobile phone, and several related documents.
In the second phase of the operation, the team apprehended Khulakpam Ayajuddin, 41, of Bengoon Loukok Mayai Leikai under Mayang Imphal police station, Imphal West district, from his locality. Authorities recovered six soap cases of Heroin No. 4 weighing 283.2 grams.
The accused, who did not possess any legal documents or license to store or sell such medicines, have been booked under the NDPS Act, 1985, the police said.
Further investigations are underway to track the networks involved in this illegal drug trade.
