Imphal: Security forces, comprising a combined column of 31 and 36 Assam Rifles along with a team from 11 Para (Special Forces), detected a significant cache of arms, explosives, and equipment during an anti-insurgency operation in Manipur’s Churachandpur district over the past 48 hours.
Officials reported on Monday that the operation was successfully conducted in the general area of Kolchung, Henglep Sub-Division, Churachandpur. A militant training camp was also discovered and destroyed.
Based on intelligence sources, the joint security team carried out the counterinsurgency campaign (CIC) and recovered the military items from an abandoned camp reportedly set up by the banned United Kuki National Army (UKNA).
No arrests were made, as the suspected UKNA cadres fled upon sighting the approaching security forces.
During the follow-up operation, the team seized a significant cache of arms, explosives, and equipment, including 15 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), eight single-barreled country-made rifles, three country-made 9mm carbines, and one 51mm high-explosive mortar bomb.
In addition, uniforms, boots, belts, and other miscellaneous items were also recovered, officials added.
