Imphal: Security forces detected a locally made rocket containing explosives and five improvised explosive devices weighing a total of four kilograms during an anti-insurgency operation in Manipur’s Churachandpur district over the past 36 hours, officials reported on Saturday.

Based on intelligence sources, security forces comprising Assam Rifles and Manipur police carried out the counter-insurgency campaign and recovered the military items.

The illegal items were retrieved from a hideout at the Thangjing foothills under Churachandpur Police Station. No arrests were made during the operation.

The seized items included a locally made rocket filled with explosives, five improvised explosive devices with a total weight of approximately four kilograms, three pompi shells each weighing three kilograms, twenty-three single-barrel rounds, and two empty cases of different arms.

In follow-up action, the security forces, along with the Forest Department as part of anti-drug campaigns, destroyed twenty acres of poppy cultivation at Thinghangjang Hill under the same police station in the district during this period. Two huts found at the plantation site were also set ablaze.

Separate cases have been registered in this regard, the reports added.
