Imphal: The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) is focusing on providing free marital counselling throughout 2026 under directives from the National Commission for Women (NCW), an advisory body to the central government.

The NCW has initiated a visionary programme titled โ€œTere Mere Sapne,โ€ a targeted mentorship initiative to support healthy marriages.

The programme aims to prepare youth emotionally, mentally, and socially before marriage to help them lead successful and fulfilling married lives.

This was stated by W. Phajatombi Devi, Additional Director (IPR), Government of Manipur, and Member Secretary, MSCW, during a one-day capacity building programme on “Empowerment Through Education and Legal Literacy” held in Imphal on Tuesday.

She further stated that under the new programme, Pre-Marital Communication Centres (PMCCs) are being established in various youth-centric institutions and offices, particularly targeting young men and women.

Launched on International Womenโ€™s Day (March 8, 2025) in India, the primary goal of the programme is to equip young individuals with the necessary communication skills and emotional intelligence to build strong, respectful, and lasting marital relationships.

The initiative aims to reduce instances of domestic violence, divorce, and other marital conflicts by addressing root causes such as lack of understanding and emotional incompatibility.

The programme included technical sessions on โ€œCapacity Building Programme for Youth Aspiring to Join the Central Paramilitary Forceโ€ delivered by Shri Mohnish Bagree, Deputy Commandant/CASO, CISF Unit, Imphal Airport, Manipur, and โ€œLegal Literacy: A Tool for Womenโ€™s Empowermentโ€ conducted by Aribam Nouteneshwari Devi.

Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson of MSCW; Prof. Dr. N. Subhashchandra Singh, Nodal Officer of DM Community College, Imphal; SK. Sophia Moyon, Member of MSCW; and students and teachers of DM Community College attended the programme.
