Imphal: The Committee on Tribal Unity (Sadar Hills) issued a final warning to the Manipur government on Tuesday, demanding immediate intervention against an alleged “inhumane and selective” economic blockade targeting the Kuki-Zo community.
In its statement, CoTU cited a state government directive issued on August 28, 2026, which explicitly prohibits road blockades and warns violators of criminal prosecution. The organization urged the administration to enforce this mandate immediately and impartially.
According to CoTU, factions from the Liangmai and Tangkhul Naga communities are actively enforcing targeted disruptions against Kuki-Zo residents.
The civil body reported that essential commodities and emergency medical vehicles are being intercepted and harassed, even though National Highways remain officially open to general traffic.
CoTU said that the Kuki-Zo community has deliberately refrained from imposing its own blockades throughout the ongoing conflict.
Warning of potential escalation, the Kangpokpi-based group stated that if authorities fail to clear the unauthorized disruptions promptly, the Kuki-Zo community will retaliate by restricting the movement of Tangkhul and Liangmai individuals through Kuki-Zo-majority areas.
Additionally, the organization renewed demands for accountability regarding past violence, accusing Tangkhul-led factions of the NSCN and ZUF-K of killing innocent civilians, including pastors, women, and a newborn infant.
CoTU declared that the Manipur government will bear full responsibility for any subsequent breakdown in public safety, asserting that any negative consequences will stem directly from state inaction and the actions of those maintaining the communal blockade.
