Guwahati: An old iron bridge near Tai village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Leparada district collapsed on Wednesday, causing injuries to some workers.
The workers were dismantling the bridge when a vehicle used for lifting scrap fell, according to local reports. Bystanders at the site helped rescue the injured.
Leparada SP Thuptan Jambey told reporters that no fatalities were reported and that the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
He also confirmed that the Basar-Daporijo road remained open, as the collapsed structure was an unused, old iron bridge.
The SP added that a new bridge has already been built under the Bame-Daporijo Trans Arunachal Highway project and is currently in service.
He explained that the old bridge was being dismantled following a departmental tender in Itanagar when the incident occurred.
