Imphal: The Manipur Police commandos, with the assistance of central paramilitary forces, arrested an individual alleged to have links with the Group of Five (G-5), an alliance of five proscribed outfits, officials reported on Thursday.
Yumnam Heramani Singh, also known as Malem (41), a resident of Itam Nungoi Mayai Leikai under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East district, was arrested based on intelligence inputs indicating his association with underground outfits.
Police said he was arrested during an operation conducted at Keibi village under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East district on Wednesday. An Aadhaar card and some incriminating documents were seized from his possession.
Police further stated that he was associated with the Peopleโs Revolutionary Party of KangleipakโProgressive (PREPAK-Progressive). PREPAK-Progressive is one of the constituents of the G-5 alliance, which also includes the Kangleipak Communist Party, Kanglei Yawol Kanba Lup, Peopleโs Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), and the United National Liberation Front (Koireng group).
The arrestee has been handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action.
Notably, police have stepped up action against the G-5 after the group allegedly issued threats to participants of Sumang Leela associations and other performers during the recently concluded Manipur Sangai Festival 2025.
