Imphal: A joint security team of central and state forces unearthed a major cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives from an insurgent hideout in Manipurโ€™s southern Kakching district, thwarting potential threats to public safety.

Officials on Thursday said the operation followed intelligence inputs about the movement and activities of anti-social elements and insurgents at Wabagai Natekhong Turenmei under Hiyanglam police station in Kakching district.

Although no arrests were made during the three-hour-long cordon and search operation conducted on Wednesday, security forces recovered a significant cache of warlike stores.

The recovered items are as follows:

i. 01 (one) M-16 rifle,
ii. 01 (one) SLR rifle,
iii. 01 (one) single-barrel gun,
iv. 02 (two) single-barrel bolt-action rifles,
v. 01 (one) 7.65 mm pistol,
vi. 10 (ten) grenades,
vii. 04 (four) detonators,
viii. 02 (two) arm rings,
ix. 01 (one) IED weighing approximately 3 kg,
x. 01 (one) live lathode round,
xi. 01 (one) explosive shell,
xii. 01 (one) 51 mm mortar bomb,
xiii. 06 (six) tear smoke shells,
xiv. 01 (one) stun shell,
xv. 71 (seventy-one) live rounds of ammunition,
xvi. 17 (seventeen) 12-bore live cartridges,
xvii. 105 (one hundred five) fired cartridges,
xviii. 07 (seven) tube launchers (1A),
xix. 05 (five) empty magazines,
xx. 02 (two) mobile handsets and 02 (two) chargers,
xxi. 01 (one) quadcopter drone along with other drone accessories.

Police said the recovered items were later handed over to Wabagai police station for further legal proceedings.
