Guwahati: The Assam government on Wednesday carried out a major administrative reshuffle, transferring 14 senior IAS and state service officers ahead of the Assembly elections.

According to official orders, Kamrup Metropolitan District Commissioner (DC) Sumit Sattawan has been posted to Tinsukia, while Swapneel Paul, who was serving as DC of Tinsukia, will take charge of Kamrup Metropolitan.

Aranyak Saikia, staff officer to the Chief Secretary, has been appointed DC of Karbi Anglong. He replaces Nirala Phangshopi, who has been shifted to the Hill Areas Department as additional secretary.

In a series of reciprocal transfers, Sivasagar DC Aayush Garg and Cachar DC Mridul Yadav have exchanged postings. Similarly, Dhubri DC Dibakar Nath and Bongaigaon DC Nabadeep Pathak have swapped districts.

The reshuffle also affects Kokrajhar, where Masanda Magdalin Pertin has been transferred from her post as DC and Director of Training at the Bodoland Administrative Staff College and posted as Joint Secretary in the Finance Department. Tamulpur DC Pankaj Chakravarty will take over as DC of Kokrajhar.

Simi Karan, currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Environment and Forest as well as Housing and Urban Affairs departments, has been appointed DC of Tamulpur.

In the prisons and home departments, Inspector General of Prisons and Home and Political Department Secretary Pubali Gohain has been posted as DC of Darrang. Parag Kumar Kakaty, the outgoing DC of Darrang, will assume charge as DC of Golaghat, while Pulak Mahanta, who was serving as DC of Golaghat, has been transferred as Inspector General of Prisons.

All transfers were ordered in the interest of public service, officials said.
