Pasighat: Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC), Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh, on Monday organised a one-day outreach workshop on child rights and safety measures at Government Upper Primary School, Jarku.
The programme was conducted by the Department of Political Science and sponsored by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of JNC to create awareness among students, parents and teachers about child protection and safety.
Arunachal Pradesh University Controller of Examinations Dr Monshi Tayeng attended as chief guest, while JNC Vice Principal Dr Leki Sitang was the guest of honour.
Associate Professor Dr Putoli Langkam, Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ), East Siang, Ayub Boko, ABK Youth Wing East Siang president Jenny Apum and All Bogong Studentsโ Union member Miding Domin participated as resource persons.
Workshop coordinator Danggen Dameng said the initiative was necessitated by a rise in offences against children, stressing the need for awareness and sensitisation to identify problems and solutions through community outreach.
The resource persons referred to recent incidents of crimes against children in the district, including cases reported at a private school in Mebo and Sainik School, Ruksin. They emphasised the importance of strong communication and trust between students, parents and teachers.
Dr Langkam encouraged children to report any offence without fear, while DSP Ayub Boko advised seeking police assistance under the POCSO Act and other relevant laws. Jenny Apum highlighted increasing cases of offences against children and urged parents to consider government schools over private institutions.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Tayeng and Dr Sitang said sustained awareness on child rights and safety was essential and encouraged students to report wrongdoing to parents, school authorities or the police.
