One more police complaint has been lodged against TMC chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee at Panbazar police station in Guwhati on Thursday over her alleged provocative remarks on Assam’s National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft.

A person, identified as Pulin Sarma, filed the complaint against the West Bengal chief minister over her remarks on Tuesday that the NRC in Assam could lead to a ‘bloodbath and a civil war in the country’.

On Wednesday, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad (AJYCP) general secretary Sudipta Hazarika filed a complaint at the North Lakhimpur Sadar police station over Banerjee’s remarks.

“Going against the Supreme Court Mamata Banerjee is making all efforts to halt the NRC process by meeting the Union Home Minister. There is apprehension that an uncalled for situation may be created anytime. Therefore I appeal to you (officer-incharge) to file a case against Mamata Banerjee and take necessary action,” Hazarika said in the complaint.

In Dibrugarh, three workers of the BJP’s youth wing BJYM also filed complaint against Banerjee.

The FIR was jointly filed by three BJYM activists- Jagdish Singh of Duliajan, Mridul Kalita of Joypur and Amulya Chengiari at Naharkatia police station.

Around 40 lakh people did not find their names in the final draft of NRC, which was updated to ascertain the number of illegal migrants in Assam.

An eight-member team of the Trinamool Congress, including six MPs, arrived at Silchar on Thursday to take stock of the situation and meet those who have been left out of the NRC draft. They were, however, stopped by police at Silchar Airport.

“Anybody can lodge an FIR. Organisations who are attacking Mamata Banerjee have themselves branded people who are out of the draft already as foreigners. How can they do that when there are cases where two people of one family are in and the other two are out of the draft?” said SS Mustafa, general secretary, Trinamool Congress, Assam.
