The Assam Government in an order has discharged six suspended Assam Police Service (APS) officers from their services for being involved in the multi-crore cash-for-job scam in Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).

The APS officers, who have been discharged from their services through a recently-issued order, are Hemanta Hillol Saikia, Jatindra Prasad Duwarah, Dilip Kumar Kalita, Jayanta Kumar Nath, Harshajyoti Bora and Sabbira Imran.

All these police officers were kept under suspension after their arrest in the APSC scam. They have currently been lodged in Guwahati Central Jail. Dibrugarh Police in January had filed chargesheet against all these suspended officials in the cash-for-job scam of the APSC along with several other gazetted officers.

Earlier, the State Government had discharged 13 arrested APS and Assam Civil Service (ACS) officers from their services on charges of being involved in the APSC scam. The dismissed officers were Rumi Saikia, Rajarshi Sen Deka, Nishamoni Deka, Dipak Khanikar, Geetali Doley, Pallabi Sarma Choudhury, Debajit Bora, Dwithun Borgoyary, Anirudha Roy, Kunal Das, Kamal Debnath, Badrul Islam Choudhury and Himangshu Choudhury.

Besides, the Dibrugarh Police also recently arrested 19 other gazetted officers, including Assam Civil Service (ACS), APS and allied service officers and they were sent to 14-day judicial custody by the court on Monday.

The 19 accused officials – Utpal Bhuyan, Barnali Das, Susovan Das, Dhruvojyoti Chakraboty, Manzoor Ilahi Laskar, Moon Mazoomdar, Mustafa Ahmed Borbhuyan, Md Saibur Rahman Borbhuyan, Monika Teronpi, Ganesh Chandra Das, Srabanti Sen Gupta, Deepsikha Phukan, Leena Krishna Kakati, all ACS officers, Rhituraj Neog (superintendent of taxes), Nipon Kumar Pathak (inspector of taxes), Gulshan Daolagpu, Pallavi Sarmah, Bhargav Phukan, all Assam Police Service (junior grade) officers and Kamrup (metro) DTO Suranjita Hazarika— were arrested by Dibrugarh police  from Assam Police special branch headquarters at Kahilipara here on July 18 as their handwriting did not match with that in their answer sheets in the APSC combined examination.

On the other hand, senior advocate Bijon Mahajan, has been relieved of his duty as public prosecutor in the cases of APSC cash-for-job scam for his absence in three court proceedings. Advocate Partha Pratim Baruah has replaced Mahajan as the new public prosecutor in the APSC scam cases.
