Archana Paul, wife of former Deputy Speaker of Assam and sitting MLA from Silchar, Dilip Kumar Paul, could not make it to the final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) that was released on Monday.
Paul’s name has featured in the final draft of the NRC but his wife Archana’s name did not appear in the final draft. Dilip Kr Paul said that he was shocked when he found her wife’s name missing from the final draft of the NRC.
“I cannot accept the fact that out of 18. 2 lakh applicants in Cachar district names of 2.2 lakh applicants are missing and from Silchar Sadar alone, a whopping 1.15 lakhs applicants have not found place in the final draft of NRC,” Paul told Northeast Now.
The name of AIUDF MLA Ananta Kumar Mallah, who represents South Abhyapuri constituency, is also missing from the final draft of NRC.
The final draft of updated NRC for Assam was published today, where out of over 3.29 crore applicants, the name of more than 2.89 crore was included.
Names of 40, 07,707 applicants were left out of the final draft and they would have time from August 30 to September 28 next.
Interestingly, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal‘s name has featured in the final draft of the NRC. Ajmal’s name was missing from the first draft of the NRC, which was released on December 31, 2017, with names of 1.90 crore applicants.
