Ahead of the by-poll to South Tura Assembly seat, Ajay Jamwal, general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party in charge of the North East Zone, visited Shillong, the State capital of Meghalaya on Wednesday.
Ajay Jamwal along with the Meghalaya State BJP leaders met Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
It may be mentioned that in the coalition Government in Meghalaya, led by the National People’s Party (NPP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also one of the partners.
Meghalaya BJP through a press communique informed that BJP national leader Ajay Jamwal also inspired the party members to uplift the party organization from the grass-root level of the State.
The party MLAs also decided to be available in the party office at least once in a week, the press communique stated.
About supporting the NPP in South Tura Legislative Assembly constituency, which is all set to go to polls on August 27, 2018, the BJP State core committee unanimously decided to send the report to the central party leadership for further roadmap.
NPP’s national president and Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma will contest the South Tura Assembly by-poll. The seat has remained vacant after MLA Agatha Sangma resigned to pave way for the CM.

The Election Commission of India through a notification announced August 24, 2018 as the date for the by-election to the South Tura Assembly seat and August 27, 2018 as the date for declaration of the poll result.
“The BJP party also decided to contest in the coming bye-electoral to the 35-Ranikor (ST) Constituency,” informed Basu Chakraborty, spokesperson, BJP Meghalaya.
