Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will sit with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh over NRC in New Delhi on Sunday.

Official sources said that the meeting to be chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will also be attended by senior officials of the Home Ministry and Assam government.

The meeting assumes significance as the second draft NRC will be published on July 30. “In Sunday’s meeting security arrangements in view of the NRC publication will be reviewed,” sources told Northeast Now.

Though the meeting was supposed to take place on Friday, it has been postponed as none of the senior minister was present for the meeting due to the ongoing Parliament session.

Meanwhile, Sonowal had a talk with the senior officials of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and discussed on certain issues related to the ongoing road projects in the state.

In another development, immediately after taking charge as Assam AICC in-charge senior Congress leader Harish Rawat said he is totally prepared for his new role. “I will work in tandem with Assam Congress to ensure party’s win in all seats in the coming general election,” he said after meeting APCC president Ripun Bora.

Recently, the Congress high command has made Rawat as AICC Assam in-charge after CP Joshi handed over the responsibility.
