The People’s Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram (PRISM), the new political party in Mizoram, headed by RTI activist Vanlalruataa on Thursday sought State Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla‘s resignation for allegedly abusing public office by entertaining his daughter-in-law to conduct ‘public interviews’ on his behalf.

Interacting with media in Aizawl on Thursday, PRISM president Vanlalruata said on getting specific information, their activists investigated the matter and found that Rosie Chalrotluangi, Lal Thanhawla’s daughter-in-law, illegally conducted interviews on behalf of the the Chief Minister at his office.

Vanlalruata said that Chalrotluangi was neither a government servant nor an official and has no legal authority to address public grievances and this is an ‘outright violation of law’.

He cited the example of the South Korean president who was impeached for taking ‘suggestions’ from her ‘civilian friend’.

Vanlalruata further said Lal Thanhawla should resign for abusing his public office by allowing his daughter-in-law, who does not hold any official position, to deal with people.

PRISM began its career as an NGO or anti-corruption watchdog in 2006 and transformed itself into a political party last year which was granted recognition in April this year.

The party advocates good governance, transparency, effective enforcement of law and order, fight against corrupt practices, punishment for those involved in corruption, steps for utilization of the state resources and steps for general welfare of people.
