A man and his son were killed while his wife was critically injured when the Rajdhani Express train ploughed into their car trapped inside a railway gate in Assam’s Dibrugarh district on Sunday night.
The incident happened around 9pm in Chabua, an area dotted with tea-gardens.

The man who was killed have been identified as Bimal Sharma (65) and his son Arnav Sharma (26).
Sharma’s wife is undergoing treatment at the Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh.
A senior police officer at Chabua said, “From what we know as of now, the person operating the railway gate did close the gate on one end but not the other one facing a tea garden area. From there the Sharma family drove in their car.”

A Northeast Frontier Railway spokesperson said, “An inquiry of the highest level has been ordered under the Commissioner of Railway Safety, and a report is expected soon”, reports The Indian Express.
The police said the Sharmas’ were returning after meeting their elder son who is an official at the tea garden.
