Dimapur: With an aim to foster and showcase the artistic talent of school students of Nagaland, a state-level Kala Utsav was organised in Kohima.

The annual event, organised by the Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, provides a platform for the students to explore and celebrate arts and cultural diversity at various levels – school, district, state and national.

The aim of organising the event is to initiate a comprehensive process of identifying, exploring, understanding, practicing, evolving and showcasing artistic talent of the students, an official report said on Friday.

At the formal event on Thursday, Nagaland school education director Wonthungo Tsopoe spoke on cultural values that students should imbibe.

Exhorting the students, state mission director of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, Temsunaro Aier, spoke about how the Kala Utsav initiative is an important platform to display the rich heritage and culture of the state.

The programme witnessed participation from the district winners for various competitions such as tribal folk vocal music, tribal folk dance, traditional instrumental music, 2d visual art, mono act and traditional storytelling.

The winners will represent Nagaland at the national-level Kala Utsav 2024 to be held at Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal in January 2025.
