Devastating fire guts dozen houses in Dibrugarh district of Assam

Dibrugarh: At least a dozen families were rendered homeless in a devastating fire that broke out at the Amolapatty area in Dibrugarh district of Assam on Wednesday.

The blaze that erupted late in the evening completely gutted 10 thatched houses in the locality.

Several fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot from across the Dibrugarh town.

The firefighters had to struggle for hours to douse the blaze.

Swift action and relentless efforts by the firefighting teams prevented the inferno from spreading to the adjacent houses.

Though the exact cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained, authorities are trying to find out the factors that could have ignited the fire.

Locals soon informed the nearest fire station on noticing a billow of thick smoke rising from one of the huts.

The blaze, however, spread fast due to the explosion of a couple of LPG cylinders.

The inferno engulfed the entire area in no time gutting 10 huts.  

Soon after the fire broke out, thick smoke enveloped the entire area with panic-stricken people running helter-skelter.

However, no injury or casualty was reported due to the incident.

Police and personnel from the district administration soon rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

Valuable documents and property worth several lakh of rupees were reportedly reduced to ashes.

While some of the victims, who lost their houses in the fire moved to their relatives and friends’ places, many had to spend the night under the open sky.
