Guwahati:ย Assam will celebrate recognition of Assamese as aย Classical Languageย with a week-long programme in November this year.
Terming the grant ofย Classical Language status to Assamese asย a historic achievement,ย Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarmaย on Sundayย saidย Assam will celebrate thisย achievementย with a week-long programmeย โBhasa Gourav Saptahโย from November 3 to 9, 2024, the chief ministerโs public relations cell said in a press statement.
โTo celebrate this historic achievement, Assam will observe โBhasa Gaurob Saptahโย from 3rdย to 9th November 2024,โ CM Sarma said.

โAs a part of the Bhasa Gourav Saptah, universities, schoolsย andย civil society organisations will host special events to honour the contributions of Assamese writers and scholars, whose work has shaped the language since the 4th century AD,โ he added.
The chief minister sought cooperation from all sections of the people ofย Assamย to make the celebration of the โBhasa Gourav Saptahโ a grand success, the statement added.
The Union Cabinet on October 3 approved conferring the status of Classical Language to Assamese, Marathi, Pali, Prakrit and Bengali languages.
