Agartala: The three-tier Panchayat elections in Tripura commenced at 7 AM this morning, with over 30% voter turnout recorded by 12 PM.
An official from the Tripura State Election Commission told reporters that the state’s three-tier panchayat system comprises 6,909 seats, including Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis, and Zila Parishads.
Of these, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has already won 4,805 seats uncontested.
In detail, Tripura’s panchayat system includes 6,370 Gram Panchayat seats, 423 Panchayat Samiti seats, and 116 Zila Parishad seats.
The total number of registered voters stands at 12,94,153, consisting of 6,58,445 males, 6,35,597 females, and 11 others. Voting is being conducted across 2,650 polling stations.
“Elections are currently taking place for 2,102 seats. Voting began at 7 AM. By 10 AM, we had recorded a 24.97% voter turnout, and further data is being compiled,” the official stated.
The official said, “The administration has implemented stringent security measures to ensure a peaceful voting process.”
“All personnel have been instructed to contact me immediately if any issues arise. Over 10,000 state security forces, including Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and 30 companies of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), have been deployed to maintain order during the panchayat polls,” he added.
