Guwahati: The Northeast state of Assam is aiming to establish a third defence corridor.
This was informed by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

โIndia currently has two notified defence corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu,โ said Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.
He added: โWe are aiming to bring the third one to Assam.โ
The Assam chief minister made this announcement while interacting with the media on Friday (July 26) evening.

He said that there are plans to make Assam โa hub to manufacture aircrafts, helicopters, missiles and other weapons systemโ.

It may be mentioned here that Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, recently, met with union defence minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi.
In the meeting between Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and union defence minister Rajnath Singh, the two leader had a โvery positive discussion on establishing a defence corridor in Assamโ.
โTo utilise Assamโs competitive advantage to become a defence manufacturing hub, we also deliberated on the possibility of organising a defence conclave in the state,โ Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had said after the meeting.
