AIZAWL: Former minister and Mizo National Front (MNF) leader K Lalrinliana on Friday slammed the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government in Mizoram, headed by chief minister Lalduhoma, for allegedly failing to keep its promises.
Taking a dig at the government, Lalrinliana said that the ZPM government functions and works in opposition to what they promised to do before it came to power in December last year.
“ZPM government does things opposite to their promises. When they say they will do it, this means they will not do it,” the MNF leader said while addressing a function at the MNF office here.
The former supply minister also slammed the government for its decision to reduce subsidy in ration and hike the price of food grains for beneficiaries not covered by National Food Security Act (NFSA).
He said that during the rule of MNF between 2018 and 2023, there was a proposal from the state finance department to reduce subsidies and hike foodgrains price.
However, the MNF government decided to continue with the existing price keeping in mind the economic status of people, who are not covered under the NFSA, he said.
Recently, state supply minister B. Lalchhanzova had said that the government would cut down the subsidy on ration food grains given to beneficiaries not covered under NFSA from the existing Rs. 25 to Rs. 10 per kg of rice.
The minister had also said that the government will hike the price of subsidised food grains by 50 per cent from Rs. 15 to Rs. 30 per kg of rice for non-NFSA households.
Lalrinliana also blamed the ZPM government for allegedly misleading people when it said it will end the ration or rice quota for chief minister, ministers, MLAs and other VIPs.
He claimed that the ration or quota provided to VIPs had been already abolished during the time of Congress, which was in power in the state between 2008 and 2018.
Lalrinliana further blamed the ZPM government for allegedly failing to fulfill its promise to buy groom sticks harvested by the farmers this year.
