Team Dreams XI were crowned champions of the Under-17 district football tournament after it thrashed Aka XI by a convincing margin of 4-3 on Sunday.

Organized by the West Kameng District Football Association (WKDFA), the nail biting finals of the coveted competition was played at the jam packed Buddha Stadium here.

The tournament which was more or less dominated by Dreams XI also saw two of its players Wanchu Khangriju and Rigen Khonjuju walking away with the ‘Man of the Tournament’ and ‘Best Player’ prizes respectively.

Wanchu netted a record number of 14 goals in the entire tournament.

Where Rinchin Khandu Singchaji of Rupa FC was adjudged the ‘Best Goalkeeper’, the award for the ‘Best Disciplined Team’ went to Winning XI.

Addressing the players before the game as chief guest, former president of All Sajolang Elite Society, Aju Khonjuju encouraged the young sportspersons to uphold discipline and sportsman spirit in and off the field.

“One of the main advantages of playing any sport is that it teaches us to cope with failures and disappointments that come our way and to make renewed efforts to achieve success next time. So give your best and make yourself worthy of representing the state and country in the future,” Khonjuju said.
