Imphal: A group of unknown gunmen shot dead a youth in broad daylight in captivity at a secluded area of Meijao Mamang Leikai under the jurisdiction of the Wangoi police station in Imphal West district on Tuesday, the police said.

The victim would be between the age of 20-30 years and his body was found with a bullet piercing from the back side of the head, the police said.

On receiving the report at around 8 am on Tuesday, a team from the Wangoi police station rushed to the scene where the victim was found in the pool of blood blindfolded his eyes by a towel and his hands tied behind his back.

Locals informed the police that the victim was brought by a group of armed men who bumped off a bullet on his head and died on the spot.

Two syringes were recovered near the spot which indicated the case may be related to the drugs.

The victim wore a light green T-shirt and black colour half-shorts.

A forensic expert team from the state forensic department has taken the prima facie evidence of the case.

Later the body was deposited at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal for post-mortem.

However, the real motive behind the killing is yet to be established so far. No outfit or individual has till now claimed responsibility for the killing.

Police registered a case in this regard and sought and help of the general masses to identify the body now lying at the RIMS, hospital.
