Following strict warning from Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb to control alleged smuggling of petrol and diesel products, the State administration has taken massive initiative to nab the oil mafias.
It is to be mentioned here that in a sudden raid, conducted under the leadership of North Tripura Superintendent of Police (SP) Manik lal Das, seized a huge consignment of petroleum products which were illegally brought for black-marketing. During the raid, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DIB), the officer-in-charge of Dharmanagar Police Station, Benu Madhav Dey and the Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Dharmanagar, were also present.
Diesel worth Rs 20 lakh, illicit liquor worth Rs 25 lakh were seized by the police during the raid.
During the raid, 2 barrels of kerosene along with motor pipe worth Rs 2 lakh were seized.
In another raid at the house of one Arup Debnath in Haruah village, the police seized 746 bottles of foreign liquors worth Rs 3 lakh.
“With Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb giving strong message against the oil mafias and oil smuggling, the police administration has been taking strong steps to put a pause in oil smuggling,” said sources.
