Guwahati: Acting swiftly on violation of the model code of conduct (MCC), the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday suspended a Special Police Officer (SPO) posted at the Sidhai police station in Tripura West.
According to reports, the SPO, identified as Suman Hossain, was suspended for participating in a political event at Mohanpur in Tripura West.
A press statement issued from the office of the chief electoral officer said the superintendent of police of West district Dr Kiran Kumar issued a temporary suspension order against Hossain on Thursday based on an investigation report by the Mohanpur sub-divisional police officer.
It has been learnt that Hossain attended an event of a political party on March 28 at the Rangamura area, adjacent to the 2/30 polling station under the Mohanpur Assembly constituency and that has been proved.
Due to this violation, MCC came into force and Hossain was temporarily suspended from his service for violation.
The SPOs are deployed to assist during the election process in the state and they have to adhere to certain regulations.
