Imphal: The Manipur Police arrested a teenager on the charge of possessing heroin and recovered a car and a mobile phone, the police said.
Identified as Kh. Iliyas Khan (19) from Kwakta Bazar, Bishnupur District of Manipur was arrested along with ten soap cases suspected to be heroin being smuggled into Manipur from porous borders of Myanmar, the police said.
One white colour Maruti car and a mobile set were also recovered from his possession.
The culprit was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985, the police said.
The arrest and seizure came at a time when the state and central forces are launching campaigns against the intoxicating substances as a part of the free and fair elections to the two Lok Sabha seats to be slated on April 19 and April 26.
In an operation conducted by the Enforcement Team of Thoubal District Excise, led by district-level nodal officer P. Ranjit, approximately 450 litres of distilled illicit country (DIC) liquor, valued at around Rs 45,000 in the local market, were seized.
The operation covered areas including Lilong, Langthabal Khoupum, Chingkham, and Chaopok villages, as part of pre-emptive measures taken ahead of the ensuing Lok Sabha election 2024.
