ITANAGAR: A total of 133 candidates are contesting for the 50 assembly constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh that will go to polls on April 19.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has put forward candidates in all 50 seats, while the opposition Congress is competing in only 19 seats.

Notably, the ruling BJP has already secured victory in 10 out of the 60 assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh uncontested.

Among the winners are Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu, as well as two first-time candidates, Ratu Techi from Sagalee and Hage Appa from the Ziro-Hapoli seat.

The BJP has introduced 14 new candidates, while its ally National People’s Party (NPP) has nominated 16 first-time contenders.

Additionally, the BJP has included four female candidates in its line-up, while the Congress has three, and there is also a female Independent candidate.

Meanwhile, a total of 14 candidates are vying for the two Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh, with eight contenders in the Arunachal West constituency and six in the Arunachal East seat.

Approximately 8,86,848 eligible voters are set to participate in the simultaneous elections in Arunachal Pradesh.

The polling is scheduled for April 19, with the counting of votes for the Arunachal Pradesh assembly elections slated for June 02.
