SIVASAGAR: Protests against the controversial citizenship amendment act (CAA) have erupted in several parts of the Northeast state of Assam.

On Tuesday (March 12), just a day after the central government implemented the CAA, members of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) took to the streets of Sivasagar town in Assam to mark their protest against the law.

Notably, Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi also led an anti-CAA protest of the Raijor Dal party in the town.

Several KMSS activists were detained by the police in Sivasagar district of Assam for taking out the anti-CAA rally.

It may be mentioned here that several political parties and organisations in Assam have raised objection to the central government’s decision to implement CAA.

Students of different colleges in Guwahati city of Assam and lawyers in Jorhat also staged protests against the implementation of CAA.
