A delegation of the pro-talk United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) arrived in Diphu, the headquarter town of Karbi Anglong district, to study the situation in the aftermath of the June 8 mob lynching incident at Panjuri village under Dokmoka Police Station and to build trust among various tribes and communities of the State.
The pro-talk ULFA leaders were received by Hills Tribal League (HTL) and various other social organisations followed by a peace meeting at KSA office at Rongthe-ang here on Wednesday.
During the meeting, ULFA (pro-talk) vice-chairman Pradip Gogoi said, “There are good and bad people everywhere. Blaming a particular community for the incident at Panjuri Kachari Gaon near Kangthilangso is not good at all. In Assam, we have to maintain peace and mutual understanding and respect one another.”
It may be mentioned that in the social media platforms, many people have held the Karbi society responsible for the mob lynching incident.

Gogoi also said, “Everyone has to visit every place either to study or for service; so, mutual understanding is important. The indigenous communities in Assam have to live in peace.”
The pro-talk ULFA vice-chairman also urged upon the authorities concerned to organize awareness programmes in every corner of the State so that such incidents do not recur due to rumours. “Criminals have no caste, religion or creed, a criminal is a criminal. Criminals should be punished as they create problems,” added Gogoi.
Adviser to the Sixth Schedule Implementation Committee (SSIC), JI Kathar said, “I personally disagree to name Kangthilangso after the two youths as it will make negative impact in Karbi Anglong district.”

Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) president Chandra Sing Kro stressed on the proper use of mobile phones as its misuse creates problems in the society.
Former leader of the now disbanded United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS), Mathew Engleng, claimed many innocent people are being arrested by police.
The meeting condemned the mob lynching. The social organisations made joint appeal to all sections of the society to maintain peace and communal harmony.
Meanwhile, Rajapathar Primary Teachers’ Association organised a candle light programme at TGC Bhawan in Rajapathar in the evening in remembrance of the two Guwahati youths – Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Nath – who were lynched.
Rajapathar Primary Teachers Association president Kamaleswar Sarangsa, teachers, students, block president of the Karbi Along Primary Teachers’ Association, Babulal Ingti, president of the Karbi Anglong TET Teachers’ Association, Umakanta Teron and others were present on the occasion.
Earlier, the prime suspect in the mob lynching incident at Panjuri Kachari Gaon, 35-year-old Alphazoz Timung was arrested on June 12 night from Dokmoka area.
On the evening of June 8, Timung misled the villagers of Panjuri about the presence of two child traffickers that resulted in the lynching of the two youths, Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Nath on the same night.
According to sources, a joint operation team of Karbi Anglong Police managed to arrest the prime suspect Timung from Dokmoka area. He has been brought to Diphu Police Station for interrogation.
A case (No 33/18) has been registered at Dokmoka PS under section 302 (attempt to murder), 202 (misinformation) and 34 (common intention) has been registered against him. Timung is a resident of Kangthilangso Narep Engti village under Dokmoka PS.
